The Apostles

This group holds the apostles: in Christian tradition, those sent out by Jesus to carry his message, above all the Twelve chosen during his ministry and figures such as Paul added later. They are the foundational witnesses on whom the early Church understood itself to be built.

The browser will find the Twelve, including Peter, John, James and their companions, along with Paul and others called apostles. The entries describe each figure's role in the Gospels and the early Church, and the traditions of their later missions and deaths.
