Alongside these larger community rites, temple priests also perform smaller scale rituals for individual visitors, including funerary rites intended to assist the deceased, and many temples additionally offer divination services, drawing lots, consulting oracle texts, or interpreting omens, that give ordinary visitors a more immediate, individually directed reason to visit beyond attending scheduled communal ceremonies.

Monastic Quanzhen temples generally maintain more clearly delineated internal religious life, organized around the celibate resident community's own daily schedule of practice, while the more community facing gong temples of hereditary priestly lineages tend to be busier with the individually commissioned ritual services described above.
