The traditions of Taoism

This small group gathers schools of religious Taoism, the indigenous organised religion of China, distinct from the philosophical Taoism of the Daodejing and Zhuangzi though drawing on the same classics. Organised Taoism developed lineages of ordained priests, liturgies and monastic orders.

The browser will find the major movements such as the Celestial Masters tradition and the later Quanzhen (Complete Perfection) monastic school. The entries describe each school's lineage, practices and texts.
