When a Dhana Yoga Operates

The wealth combinations are subject to the same discipline as the rest of the classical corpus: they are read for what they can produce and then timed against the planetary periods, so that a Dhana yoga is expected to yield during the dasha or subperiod of a planet that forms it. The tradition is unusually explicit about timing in this class, since the arrival and departure of resources is a thing that visibly happens at particular moments.

A second point specific to the class is that the houses involved, the second and the eleventh, are read as capacity rather than as amount. Neither the classical texts nor the later handbooks quantify, and a wealth combination is not held to specify a sum; what is described is the manner in which resources are acquired and held, and through which houses of life they come.

The class also interacts with the sixth, eighth and twelfth houses, the dusthanas, which carry debt, loss and expenditure, and a combination linking a wealth house to one of these is read very differently from one that does not. The atlas records these as the readings the tradition holds. Jyotisha is described here and not practised, and the interpretation of any particular chart is the work of a trained astrologer.
