Nine in the third place is a warning about rigidity under load, and it is one of the few lines the text declines to soften. A querent here is typically doing everything correctly by the standards of their position and is nonetheless close to failure, because the position itself is bearing more than it was built for and has no give left in it. The commentary's observation that no help can be brought is a statement about the situation rather than about what the querent deserves. The relief is simply not available from where they are standing.
The structure locates the problem precisely. The stroke is strong in an odd place, correct by the ordinary rule and therefore unlikely to be questioned, and it sits at the top of the lower trigram Xun surrounded by strength. The one line that answers it is the yielding stroke at the summit of the hexagram, which has nothing to offer. Somebody drawing this line has usually been leaning, without noticing, on the least substantial connection available to them.
The changing line turns the lower trigram Xun into Kan and produces Oppression, King Wen 47, constraint and exhaustion, a figure about being hemmed in with the resources spent. That destination is a description rather than a threat, and it makes the counsel plain. Continuing on correctness alone leads to depletion, so the useful action is to reduce the load or find a support that genuinely bears weight, before the beam rather than the person decides the matter.
