This haftarah opens with the completion of all the work Solomon had done for the house of God, and the dedicated items David had set aside brought in and placed in the Temple's treasuries. Solomon then assembles the elders and tribal leaders of Israel to bring the Ark of the Covenant up from the City of David to its new resting place, with sacrifices offered in such abundance along the way that they cannot be counted or numbered.
The priests bring the Ark into the inner sanctuary, beneath the wings of the cherubim, and as they withdraw, a cloud fills the house of God so completely that the priests are unable to continue their service, the text stating plainly that the glory of God had filled the Temple, an overwhelming culmination to the whole building project.
The haftarah closes with Solomon addressing the assembled people, recalling David's original wish to build a house for God and God's instruction that Solomon, David's own son, would be the one to actually carry it out, and Solomon notes that he has now fulfilled that promise and placed the Ark there, containing the covenant God made with the ancestors when He brought them out of Egypt.
The abundance of sacrifices offered along the way, too numerous to count, also echoes the sheer scale of donated materials the parashah records for the Tabernacle's own construction, both accounts treating overwhelming quantity as itself a sign of a community's genuine devotion to the project at hand.
