Hizb 56 opens with the whole of Al-Jumua, Friday, which establishes the obligation of the Friday congregational prayer, instructing believers to set aside trade and hasten to the remembrance of God once called, with a rebuke for those who neglect it. Al-Munafiqun follows, describing hypocrites' hollow public declarations of faith, compared to propped up timber, solid in appearance and empty within, and urging believers to spend in charity before death arrives and regret becomes useless.
At-Taghabun, on mutual loss and gain, and At-Talaq, setting out detailed divorce procedure, waiting periods and maintenance obligations, follow in full, before the hizb closes carrying the whole of At-Tahrim, the Prohibition, which addresses a private matter within the Prophet's own household directly, and instructs believers generally to guard themselves and their families from the Fire.
The hizb closes on a striking pair of parables: the wives of Noah and Lot, who betrayed husbands who were themselves righteous, set against the wife of Pharaoh, who kept her faith despite a husband who was not, and Mary, praised for guarding her chastity, models the sura draws without regard to which side of a marriage held the greater faith.
