A Hizb Spanning Two Suras and Two Subjects Entirely

Hizb 8 closes Juz 4 and, like Hizb 5 three juz earlier, crosses a sura boundary mid hizb, here from the reflective closing verses of Al-i-Imran into the opening family and inheritance law of An-Nisa. The change in both subject and register, contemplative meditation giving way to detailed legal instruction, happens within a single hizb's four rub al-hizb quarters with no additional mark distinguishing the shift beyond the ordinary sura heading itself.

In a tarawih schedule this hizb typically closes the fourth night, and reciters pacing by quarter rather than by sura cross from Al-i-Imran into An-Nisa partway through the third quarter, a transition that gives no particular pause in the recitation even though it moves from one named chapter to the next.

For memorisation, this hizb is often noted as a harder review unit than most, precisely because it asks a hafiz to hold two different kinds of material, meditative prose and enumerated legal shares, inside boundaries that do not respect the difference, which is the ordinary cost of a division built purely on length rather than on subject.

Printed Mushafs mark this hizb's rub al-hizb quarters in the ordinary way, small marginal symbols distinguishing the quarter, half and three-quarter points, but carry no separate note that a sura has changed partway through, leaving that fact visible only from the chapter heading itself rather than from any mark tied to the hizb system.
