Tecuilhuitontli, the Little Feast of the Lords, is named to contrast directly with Huey Tecuilhuitl, the Great Feast, which follows it soon after in the solar calendar and honors Xilonen with far more prominence and public feasting. That paired naming, little and great versions of what is nominally the same kind of feast, is itself informative about how Aztec ritual planners structured the year: rather than treating every veintena as an isolated, self-contained occasion, several were built as escalating pairs or sequences, so that a smaller, more specialized rite for a single trade or concern preceded a larger, more broadly public one addressing a related but wider theme. Huixtocihuatl's festival, tied specifically to salt-workers, fits this pattern as the narrower, guild-scale predecessor to the wide agricultural celebration that follows it, and reading the two side by side clarifies that what looks like a minor, single-purpose festival in isolation was in fact one deliberate step in a larger seasonal sequence the state calendar had built with real structure, not an arbitrary list of eighteen unrelated occasions. The same escalating logic, a lesser and a greater version of one theme placed close together, recurs often enough across the veintenas that it is best read as a real organizing principle rather than a coincidence of two similarly named feasts.
