Inspector General Honorary is the thirty third and highest degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, an honorary rank bestowed for distinguished Masonic service rather than earned through a fixed sequence of petitions like the degrees beneath it. It sits above the thirty second degree, Master of the Royal Secret, the highest rank ordinarily conferred by petition and the practical ceiling for most members who complete the Rite's numbered sequence.

Because it is honorary rather than petitioned, Inspector General Honorary breaks the pattern every degree beneath it follows: a Mason cannot simply request or work toward it in the way the twenty nine numbered degrees, four through thirty two, are worked through in sequence. Each Scottish Rite jurisdiction instead limits how many members may hold the thirty third at a given time, treating it as a recognition conferred by the Rite's own governing body rather than a rank a member advances into.
