The ketheric body is, in the seven-layer aura model, the seventh and outermost layer, the highest and subtlest, associated with the spiritual self at its most refined and with the connection to the divine mind, often described as a golden, egg-shaped shell that surrounds and contains all the layers within it and holds the pattern of the whole. Its name is borrowed from Kether, the Crown, the highest sphere of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, a sign of how freely the modern aura literature drew on varied esoteric sources: the seven-fold scheme popularised by Barbara Brennan combined Theosophical subtle-body doctrine, Indian koshas and Western Kabbalistic vocabulary into a single system.
The ketheric layer is read as the level of the higher self and of the integration of the whole aura. The seven-layer model is a modern construction of twentieth-century esotericism; it is presented here as a description of a belief tradition, not an anatomical fact, since auras have no scientific basis, and no medical or diagnostic claim is made for it.
