The Lot of Victory, kleros nikes, is the lot of Jupiter in the Hermetic set, built on the Lot of Spirit, and it is read for success, confidence, favourable outcome, trust and the achievement of what is attempted. Paulus Alexandrinus places it among the seven and pairs it against Nemesis, the lot of Saturn built on Fortune, so that the two form a second axis in the set: what succeeds against what fails or is exacted. Victory being built on Spirit and Nemesis on Fortune preserves the same structural logic as the Eros and Necessity pair, the willed against the given. The Greek nike is the ordinary word for victory in war and in games and was personified as a goddess, and the lot carries that competitive sense rather than a general good fortune, which belongs to Fortune itself.
The day formula is Ascendant plus Jupiter minus Spirit; by night the terms reverse, Ascendant plus Spirit minus Jupiter. Its construction from Spirit rather than Fortune places Victory, like Eros, among the volitional lots, so that classical authors read it not as luck falling to a person but as success following from deliberate pursuit, ambition realised through the exercise of will, which is the same distinction that separates Eros from Necessity and Courage from a merely fortunate outcome elsewhere in the set.
