Qi Sha's Place in the Tian Fu Series

Qi Sha is the seventh of the eight stars in the Tian Fu series, its palace fixed at a set offset from Tian Fu's own calculated position, following Tian Fu, Tai Yin, Tan Lang, Ju Men, Tian Xiang and Tian Liang and preceding only Po Jun, the series' final and comparably forceful member, in the established order. Its severe, decisive reading stands in sharp contrast to Tian Fu's own cautious stewardship at the series' head, and Ho Peng Yoke's account of the system treats this range, from a storehouse keeper's caution to a star literally named for killing, as illustrating just how widely Zi Wei Dou Shu's fourteen major stars were designed to cover the possible range of human temperament and circumstance within a fixed structural framework.

Qi Sha's placement immediately before Po Jun, the series' other notably forceful star, means a chart carrying both in adjacent or connected palaces is read by the tradition as carrying an unusually strong, potentially volatile concentration of decisive, disruptive energy, a configuration practitioners generally read as demanding an unusually well balanced set of supporting stars elsewhere in the chart to manage productively rather than destructively.
