Raja Yoga

Raja Yoga, the royal combination, is not a single configuration but a class of them: any association between the lord of an angle, a kendra, and the lord of a trine, a trikona, whether by conjunction, mutual aspect or exchange of signs, is a raja yoga. The reasoning is structural. The angles are the pillars of the chart and carry action and standing, the trines carry fortune and merit, and the tradition holds that when the rulers of the two kinds of place combine, capacity and opportunity are joined. Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra treats these at length and gives the ninth and tenth lords in association particular weight. The name promises kingship, and the older texts are written for a courtly readership, but the practical reading is of elevation relative to one's circumstances rather than of literal rule; the strength and placement of the planets involved govern how much the combination delivers.
