Red-Orange

Red-orange is a transitional hue between red and orange, and it inherits the symbolism of both: the vitality, heat and urgency of red warmed and softened toward the energy and enthusiasm of orange. It is emphatically a colour of fire and heat, the colour of flame, of embers, of the low sun, and where colour systems distinguish it they place it with dynamism, passion and physical energy. It has no independent liturgical or traditional code of its own; historically, colour vocabularies rarely named so fine a distinction, and reds and oranges were often grouped together, so red-orange as a discrete category is largely a product of modern colour theory and of systems, such as the aura and chakra literature, that arrange colours along a continuous spectrum and assign meaning by position. In that setting red-orange sits between the root and sacral centres, blending grounding with creativity. As a practical colour it is among the most visible and attention-catching, which is why it appears in safety and high-visibility contexts.
