The World's First Digambara Channel

India's satellite television market carries dozens of general Hindu devotional channels, but no channel dedicated specifically to the Digambara sect of Jainism existed until Jain Telemedia Services Ltd, a subsidiary of the commercial broadcaster Sea TV Network Ltd, launched Jinvani Channel on December 9, 2011. Trade press covering Indian broadcasting reported the launch as a distinct milestone at the time, and both the channel's own account and independent reference sources continue to describe it as the world's first satellite channel built solely around Digambara Jain religious life, rather than as a general Jain or interfaith spiritual channel that happened to include Digambara content among many traditions.

The channel's stated purpose ties directly to Digambara teaching: spreading ahimsa, the principle of non violence toward all living beings that Digambara tradition traces to Lord Mahavira, and using television as a tool to shift viewers' mindset and conduct rather than simply to entertain them. Based in Agra, the channel built its schedule around scriptural discourse, devotional music and educational programming rather than around news or general interest content, a narrower focus than most Indian religious broadcasters attempt.
