Its best-known scheme is the eight limbs (ashtanga): the ethical restraints (yama) and observances (niyama), posture (asana), breath-control (pranayama), withdrawal of the senses (pratyahara), concentration (dharana), meditation (dhyana) and absorption (samadhi).
