The Travel Palace and Its Opposite, Life

The Travel Palace sits seventh in the twelve palace wheel and stands directly opposite the Life Palace, the pairing that opens this whole account of the twelve palaces from the other side, home ground and the road away from it read as two faces of a single underlying question about where a native's fortune is strongest. Because Life is the palace consulted first in any full chart reading, Travel is correspondingly the second most frequently cross referenced palace in ordinary practice, a reader checking what the Life Palace establishes about core disposition against what Travel indicates about fortune once that disposition is tested away from familiar ground.

The empty palace convention gives this particular pairing unusual prominence within the system: since a Life Palace with no major star of its own borrows its reading entirely from Travel, and the reverse holds equally, a chart in which either of this pair sits vacant makes the other palace's reading effectively load bearing for both domains at once, a structural fact Ho Peng Yoke's account of the system treats as making the Life and Travel opposition the single most consequential of the wheel's six pairings whenever either half happens to be empty of major stars.
