The One Figure Everybody Shares

The Universal Year is the digits of the calendar year added and reduced. In 2026 that is two plus zero plus two plus six, which gives ten and then one. It is the same figure for every person on earth, and it is the only position in this chart that is not about an individual at all.

Its role is to give the personal positions a background. A practitioner reads the Personal Year against the Universal Year and reports on the relation: a person in a personal nine during a universal one is described as releasing while the world begins, and the tension between the two is the reading. Without the universal figure the personal one would have nothing to be measured against.

Because the calculation is simply the digits of the year, the sequence is almost regular. Through the twenty-first century the universal year advances by one annually and wraps from nine to one, with the ordinary digit-sum arithmetic occasionally producing a repeat across a century boundary. Anyone can compute the next twenty years in a minute.

That transparency cuts two ways. It makes the position honest, in that nothing is hidden and no expertise is required. It also makes plain that whatever is being claimed applies to eight billion people simultaneously, which is a very broad claim to attach to a single digit.

The tradition's own answer is that the universal figure sets a tone rather than an event, and that the personal positions are where anything specific happens. That is a coherent division of labour.
