The ceremony has also become one of the most visible ambassadors of Muay Thai as it has spread internationally as a sport, performed by non Thai fighters trained in the art worldwide, a globalisation that has generated its own debate about whether the rite retains its devotional weight for practitioners outside its originating culture or functions increasingly as pre fight spectacle, a question the Thai boxing establishment itself has not settled and does not require settled to keep the ceremony mandatory in sanctioned bouts.
