Mahasthabir Nikaya

The Mahasthabir Nikaya is a Bengali order of Buddhist monks, based in Bangladesh, that formed in 1864 under the monk Radha Charan Mahasthabir as an anti-reformist and anti-foreign-influence counter-movement opposing the newly formed Sangharaj Nikaya, which had been led by Saramitra Mahasthabir, known as Saramedha Mahathera in Pali. The two orders are doctrinally identical, and their split reflects practical disagreement over foreign influence and day-to-day monastic practice rather than any difference in Buddhist teaching.
