The Claretians, formally the Congregation of Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary (C.M.F.), are a Roman Catholic clerical religious congregation of pontifical right founded on July 16, 1849, in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, by Fr. Antonio Maria Claret y Clara together with co-founders Esteban Sala and Jose Xifre at a seminary in Vic. Headquartered in Rome, the congregation numbers more than 3,000 priests and brothers working across 70 countries on five continents, engaged primarily in missionary evangelization. The Claretians hold a particular devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and have published extensively in Mariology, the theological study of Mary; their motto translates as Her sons proclaimed her most blessed.
