The Little Sisters of Jesus are a Catholic religious community for women founded on 8 September 1939 in Touggourt, French Algeria, by Madeleine Hutin, known in religion as Little Sister Magdeleine of Jesus, drawing on the life and writings of Charles de Foucauld. Organized as a centralized religious institute of consecrated life of pontifical right under the motto Jesus Caritas, the sisters live contemplatively among the world's poorest and most marginalized people, including nomads and factory workers, deliberately going to communities no one else would serve. By 2024 the congregation counted roughly 900 sisters present in 45 countries across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania, with its generalate at Tre Fontane, Rome, established in 1964.
