Sisters of Providence of Holyoke

The Sisters of Providence of Holyoke are a congregation of Roman Catholic religious sisters founded in 1892, tracing their roots to November 1873 when four Sisters of Charity arrived from Kingston, Ontario to serve the poor of Holyoke's industrial community, initially caring for the sick poor, many of them immigrants laboring in the city's paper mills. Their charter, dated December 17, 1892, authorized them for establishing and maintaining a school for the education of children, establishing and maintaining a hospital for the cure of the sick, and assisting the poor and destitute. The congregation is headquartered in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
