The Sisters of Providence of the Institute of Charity, also known as the Rosminian Sisters of Providence, are a Roman Catholic religious institute for women established in Italy in 1832 by Blessed Antonio Rosmini-Serbati and Abbe Jean-Baptiste Lowenstein. The institute is mainly contemplative but undertakes charitable work suited to women, particularly the teaching of girls and young children, visiting the sick, and instructing in Christian doctrine. It grew from its origin in the Tyrol region to England in 1843 and later to Ireland, Wales, Tanzania, Venezuela, Colombia and India; by 1946, when established as a Congregation of Papal Right, it comprised nearly 600 permanently professed sisters across about 100 houses.
