Martin Luther (Workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder, Metropolitan Museum of Art, 55.220.2)

Christian Art

A small oil-on-wood portrait of Martin Luther, produced by the Workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder, probably in 1532. It follows the standardized bust-length likeness of Luther that the Cranach workshop produced in multiple versions during the reformer's own lifetime to circulate a recognizable image of him. Held today by the Metropolitan Museum of Art under accession 55.220.2, given by Robert Lehman in 1955.
