Duluth is a port city in northeastern Minnesota, at the western tip of Lake Superior, and the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Duluth.

Named for the French fur trader Daniel Greysolon, sieur Du Luth, who opened the Lake Superior country to trade in 1679; laid out in 1856 at the lake's western tip and incorporated as a city in 1870. 1
