About

Kehila Kedosha Janina is a synagogue on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York, and the only Romaniote (Greek-rite) Jewish congregation in the Western Hemisphere. It was established in 1906 by Greek-speaking Jewish immigrants from Ioannina in northwestern Greece and has occupied its current 1927 sanctuary, a New York City landmark since 2005, ever since. The congregation continues to hold Sabbath and holiday services in the Romaniote rite and operates an affiliated museum documenting Greek Jewish history.
