Gemini is one of the 88 modern constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union. Its genitive form is Geminorum, its standard abbreviation is Gem, it is traditionally shown as the Twins, Castor and Pollux. It belongs to the Zodiac family of constellations and lies in the second quadrant of the northern hemisphere. The constellation covers about 514 square degrees of sky, ranking 30th in size among the 88. Its brightest star is Pollux (β Gem) at apparent magnitude 1.15. It borders Lynx, Auriga, Taurus, Orion, Monoceros, Canis Minor and Cancer.
