All Ethics and Conduct

Core tenets that state a moral rule or standard of right conduct that the tradition holds its adherents to, independent of any ritual form. This includes tenets on nonviolence, honesty, charity and other virtues treated as binding moral duties, prohibitions on specific conduct grounded in moral rather than ritual reasoning, and doctrines that ground ethical obligation in the divine will or in a broader cosmic order. A moral duty carried out specifically as a ritual act, such as a prescribed almsgiving rite tied to a holy day, belongs instead under ritual and worship, where the ritual form is the defining fact.
