Home›Core Tenets›Ethics and ConductGroupEthics and ConductCore tenets that state a moral rule or standard of right conduct that the tradition holds its adherents to, independent of any ritual form. This includes tenets on nonviolence, honesty, charity and other virtues treated as binding moral duties, prohibitions on specific conduct grounded in moral rather than ritual reasoning, and doctrines that ground ethical obligation in the divine will or in a broader cosmic order. A moral duty carried out specifically as a ritual act, such as a prescribed almsgiving rite tied to a holy day, belongs instead under ritual and worship, where the ritual form is the defining fact.Browse ByComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)Browse ByAll Ethics and ConductEthics and Conduct31 entriesEthics and ConductFilter Results31 entriesStatus Within the TraditionAllAffirmed, but left to individual conscience (2)Binding, without a formal definition (26)Genuinely disputed within the tradition (2)Rejected, or not held, within this tradition (4)Standard teaching, not formally defined (2)The mainstream position, not formally binding (1)Origin Period Start YearAll-1500 (1)1167 (1)1527 (1)1964 (1)Affirmation OfAllAhimsa (1)Dharma (1)Four Regulative Principles (1)The Noble Eightfold Path (1)The Seven Fundamental Tenets (1)The Threefold Law (1)The Wiccan Rede (1)Wu wei (1)Category of BeliefAllCore Tenets (10)Cosmological Beliefs (1)Moral Precepts (11)Prohibitions (2)TraditionAllAhmadiyya (1)Alexandrian Wicca (2)American Humanist Association (1)Amish (2)Anabaptism (2)Anglican Communion (1)Assemblies of God (1)Church of Satan (1)Community of Christ (1)Dianic Wicca (2)Digambara (3)Dragon Gate (2)Eclectic Solitary Wicca (2)Ethical Culture (2)Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (1)Feri Tradition (2)Gardnerian Wicca (2)Gelug (1)Global Methodist Church (1)Humanists International (2)Ibadism (1)Irani Zoroastrianism (1)ISKCON (Hare Krishna) (1)Ismailism (1)Kharijites (1)Lingayatism (1)Mahayana (1)Mennonites (2)Nirmala (1)Order of Nine Angles (1)Parsi Zoroastrianism (1)Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
