Origin from 1968
A New Creed is an affirmation of faith widely used in worship by the United Church of Canada, originally adopted in 1968 by the church's 23rd General Council under the title A Contemporary Expression of Christian Faith and opening with the words Man is not alone. It was revised in 1980 to use more inclusive language and again in 1994 to add the phrase to live with respect in Creation, and rather than replacing historic creeds such as the Apostles' Creed or the Nicene Creed it functions as a supplementary statement of faith, though most United Church congregations rarely use the older formulations in practice.
