Origin from 1595
The Lambeth Articles of 1595 are nine doctrinal statements on predestination proposed by bishops of the Church of England during a controversy between Calvinist and non-Calvinist clergy in the reign of Elizabeth I. Their primary author was the Reformed theologian William Whitaker, and although the church's bishops endorsed them, Queen Elizabeth I declined to authorize them, so they were never formally implemented in England. The Church of Ireland later adopted them in 1615 as part of its own Irish Articles.
