Origin from 1960
The Maasai Creed is a creed composed in 1960 by the Maasai people of East Africa in collaboration with Roman Catholic missionaries of the Congregation of the Holy Ghost. It grew out of the work of Father Vincent J. Donovan, whose book Christianity Rediscovered describes how the Maasai arrived at their own contextualized statement of Christian belief rather than simply receiving one of the historic Western creeds, making it a widely cited example of an indigenous African Christian confession of faith.
