Pitao Cozobi Maize Headdress Pitao Cozobi is the Zapotec god of maize, whose name has been rendered as meaning god of abundant sustenance. Zapotec funerary urns depict him wearing a feathered headdress from which corn cobs sprout, their growth made possible by the lightning, clouds and rain shown as S-shaped emblems in the band beneath the feathers, an image tying his agricultural role directly to Cocijo, the Zapotec rain and lightning god already recorded on this atlas.
