Unetlanvhi

Cherokee Deities

Unetlanvhi, also rendered Unelanvhi, is the supreme being and creator of Cherokee religious tradition, described as omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient and said to have made the earth to provide for its children. In most Cherokee oral and written theology this Great Spirit is not personified with human characteristics or a physical human form. Alternative names recorded for the same being include Unahlahnauhi, maker of all things, and Kalvlvtiahi, the one who lives above.
