Luke the Evangelist

Disciples

Luke the Evangelist is one of the Four Evangelists, the four traditionally ascribed authors of the canonical gospels. The Early Church Fathers ascribed to him the authorship of both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, and Jerome and Eusebius later reaffirmed that authorship, though scholarly opinion on the tradition was roughly evenly divided near the end of the twentieth century. The New Testament mentions him briefly, and the Epistle to the Colossians refers to him as a physician, so he is thought to have been both a physician and a disciple of Paul. The atlas treats him as the traditional author of those two works.
