The life of Jesus in the Gospel narrative is the sequence of episodes the four canonical Gospels record from before his birth through his death and reported resurrection, the shared spine of the Christian liturgical calendar and of Christian devotional and doctrinal tradition. The narrative opens with the Annunciation and Visitation, moves through the Nativity, the Visit of the Magi and the Presentation in the Temple, and continues into his adult ministry with the Baptism, the Temptation in the Wilderness, the Wedding at Cana, the Transfiguration and the Raising of Lazarus. The Passion narrative gathers the Entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, the Descent into Hades, the Resurrection and the Ascension. Commentators and reference works on the Gospels, including standard dictionaries of the Christian church, treat these episodes as a single connected narrative arc rather than isolated stories, each one carrying its own doctrinal and liturgical weight within that arc.
