The Eight Ordinary Months

The eight months of the Islamic lunar calendar that do not carry the sacred status of the four forbidden months, Safar, Rabi al-Awwal, Rabi al-Thani, Jumada al-Ula, Jumada al-Akhirah, Shaban, Ramadan and Shawwal. Ramadan, the month of fasting, is honored by its own rules even though it is not one of the four sacred months. These months follow the ordinary reckoning of the lunar year, twelve months of twenty nine or thirty days each, and they carry no special prohibition on warfare, although individual observances such as the fast of Ramadan and the festival at the close of it fall inside them.
