The Avahan Akhara is a Shaivite monastic order affiliated with the Juna Akhara as a subsidiary. Its headquarters is in Haridwar, and its ascetics worship the deities Dattatreya and Gajanan. Tradition holds that the saints of the Avahan Akhara were the first to answer the call of Adi Shankaracharya when he organized the akharas.
