Al-Nasai, who lived from about 830 to 915 CE, 215 to 303 AH, and whose full name was Abu Abd al-Rahman Ahmad ibn Shuayb ibn Ali ibn Sinan ibn Bahr ibn Dinar al-Khurasani al-Nasai, was a noted collector of hadith from the city of Nasa in early Khorasan, in what is now Turkmenistan. He compiled As-Sunan, one of the six hadith collections recognized as canonical by Sunni Muslims, and later abridged it into Al-Mujtaba, also known as Sunan al-Sughra. Of the fifteen books he is known to have written, six treat the science of hadith.
