Auxentius of Milan

Auxentius of Milan, also called Auxentius of Cappadocia, was active from about 343 to 374 and served as an Arian theologian and bishop of Milan. Because of his Arian faith the Catholic Church has regarded him as an intruder and excluded him from its lists of the bishops of Milan, such as the one engraved in the Cathedral of Milan, and he came to be seen as the chief opponent of the Nicene Creed in the western church. His theology was attacked by Hilary of Poitiers, whose work Liber contra Auxentium remains the principal surviving source of information about him.
