Manasseh was the fourteenth king of the Kingdom of Judah, the eldest of the sons of Hezekiah and Hephzibah according to 2 Kings 21:1. He became king at the age of twelve and reigned for fifty five years, as 2 Kings 21:1 and 2 Chronicles 33:1 record. He appears in the biblical books of Kings and Chronicles, and his name is recorded here so that texts traditionally attributed to him can be linked to the king himself rather than to a bare name.
