This page groups secret societies by the older cultural tradition scholars connect them to. Wikipedia notes that anthropologically, secret societies "have been deeply interlinked with the concept of the Mannerbund, the all-male 'warrior-band' or 'warrior-society' of pre-modern cultures." Browsing by tradition lets a visitor see the deeper cultural pattern a given society is said to continue.
