Belief systems that were made up on purpose, whether as satire of existing religion, as play, or as a philosophy built on a work of fiction. Some borrow the outward forms of church life, such as ordination, scripture and congregations, in order to comment on faith and authority, while others draw their symbols and ethics from a fictional universe and are practiced by fans who take them seriously. Their standing as religions is often contested, and members differ about how much of the practice they mean sincerely.
