Ismaili, Zaidi and Ibadi Foundational Texts

Three works stand as the primary hadith and legal collections of Islamic branches outside the Sunni and Twelver Shia mainstream, each serving its own community the way the Sunni six books or the Shia four books serve theirs. Da'a'im al-Islam, compiled by the Fatimid chief judge al-Qadi al-Numan in the tenth century, remains the official legal code of Tayyibi Ismaili communities including the Dawoodi Bohra. Musnad al-Imam Zayd is attributed to Zayd ibn Ali, whose followers became the Zaidi branch of Shia Islam, though its authorship and dating are debated among scholars. Jami' al-Rabi', compiled by al-Rabi' ibn Habib al-Farahidi in the eighth century from earlier Ibadi scholars, is the central hadith reference for Ibadi communities in Oman and North Africa today. Grouping these three names the real, sect specific parallel these minority branches maintain to the canons better known from Sunni and Twelver Shia Islam, without claiming they share a single compiler, century or textual lineage beyond that structural role.
