A 1979 Harmonia Mundi recording by the early music ensemble Atrium Musicae de Madrid under its founder and director Gregorio Paniagua, reconstructing ancient Greek music from scattered surviving fragments of papyrus and inscription on instruments the ensemble rebuilt to match. The programme includes the First and Second Delphic Hymns to Apollo, a Hymn to the Muse and a Hymn to Nemesis attributed to the second century poet and composer Mesomedes of Crete, choral fragments drawn from Euripides and Aristophanes, and instrumental pieces reconstructed from papyrus sources including the Vienna papyrus. It remains one of the few recordings of ancient Greek music produced with this degree of scholarly and archaeological rigor, reuniting fragments that had never before been performed together.
