Serpopard

The serpopard, also known as the monstrous lion, is a mythical animal known from ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian art. Serpopard is a modern coinage, a portmanteau of serpent and leopard, reflecting the interpretation that the creature combines the body of a leopard with the long neck and head of a serpent; some scholars instead describe the figures as serpent-necked lions. No name for the creature survives in any ancient text, so serpopard is purely a modern descriptive label rather than a term the cultures that depicted it used themselves.
