Mordecai Kaplan

Mordecai Menahem Kaplan (1881-1983) was an American rabbi, Jewish educator, theologian and professor who founded Reconstructionist Judaism, a modern movement he developed together with his son-in-law, Rabbi Ira Eisenstein. Kaplan argued for adapting Jewish practice to the conditions of modern life by treating Judaism as an evolving religious civilization, giving weight to its cultural and historical character alongside its theology rather than to doctrine alone.
