Majlis Agama Islam Selangor (MAIS) is the State Islamic Religious Council for Selangor, Malaysia, established under the Administration of the Religion of Islam (State of Selangor) Enactment. Under the separate Wakaf Enactment (Selangor) 1999, MAIS holds sole-trustee title over every piece of waqf land in the state, a legal position that makes it, on paper, the single owner of record for all of Selangor's religious endowment property.

Holding title and administering land day to day are not the same task, and MAIS delegated the second in 2011 to a dedicated body, Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor, while keeping sole-trustee title for itself. That split, title with MAIS and daily administration with Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor, has held since 2011 and remains the structure in place today.

Malaysia has no single national account of its waqf wealth: administration is organized state by state, each with its own religious council and its own waqf enactment, so MAIS and Selangor's arrangement described here says nothing directly about the other twelve states and the federal territories, each of which runs its own separate system.

A written answer tabled in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly put a number on what MAIS holds title to as of October 2021: 1,313 waqf property lots totaling 1,425.76 acres across the state, held under MAIS's sole-trustee title with day-to-day administration delegated to Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor since 2011.

That figure is a property count, not a monetary valuation. A legislative answer naming lots and acreage tells a reader how much land is involved without saying what that land is worth, a distinction that matters because the two kinds of figures answer different questions: acreage measures the physical extent of Selangor's waqf holdings, while a valuation would measure their financial significance, and only the first of those two questions has an answer in the public record here.

The figure also covers only Selangor among Malaysia's thirteen states and three federal territories, each of which administers its own waqf land under its own state enactment and its own reporting practices, so it cannot be read as a proxy for Malaysia's waqf holdings nationally, and no comparable count for any other state was found in the same legislative record.
